What a story.

A lot of people believe there's someone out there for everyone. Someone else who shares all your common ground and is 100% compatible.

That's never been more true for Melissa Dohme and Cameron Hill. The two are set to meet at the alter next year but the story of how they got to where they are now is truly thrilling.

Four years ago, Melissa was in an abusive relationship, so much so that her boyfriend attempted to murder her. She managed to survive after being stabbed 32 times, thanks to the emergency services that turned up at the scene. One of the firefighters, who was one of the first responders, was Cameron.

Ten months later, the pair were reunited when Melissa told her story for the first time, and as one of the heroes of the night, Cameron was in the crowd. Given the emotional occasion, he decided to invite her back to a meal that he and his fellow firefighters were having. At the meal, Melissa realised after talking to Cameron that she was already beginning to fall for her hero.

"I was just overwhelmed with joy and feeling so blessed to meet them and say thank you. I was extremely giddy because I was having dinner with all the men who saved my life. The more I learned about Cameron, the more I realised that we have so much in common. And this feeling that I was feeling was not just because he was someone who had saved me. I really had feelings for this man," Melissa told Fox 13 News.

Since then, the two have been together through the court case for the attempted murder of Melissa, surgeries to help fix her injuries, and therapy sessions. All of which lead up to the moment that Cameron proposed to her at a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game in front of a stadium full of people.

"He's been by my side through it all, helping me, loving me. He was down on one knee; he opened the box and asked me to marry him," she said.

They'll be tying the knot on March 5, 2017.
