A bus driver in the USA has been braiding the hair of a young girl on the bus to school every day after discovering that her mum had passed away.

After the unexpected and sudden death of 11-year-old Isabella Pieri's mum from a rare illness, her grieving father didn't know how to do her hair in the morning.

Because he has to leave for work very early, he decided to cut it very short.

When she decided to grow her hair back out she was on her own, until she spotted bus driver Tracy Dean helping to sort out another girl's braids.

She eventually worked up the courage to ask for help, and since then Tracy has been doing Isabella's hair most mornings before school, and now even does other girls' hair too.

Tracy told KSL-TV: "You treat them like your own kids, you know.

"Seven years ago, I found out I had breast cancer, and that's one of the things that went though my head, who is going to take care of my little ones?

"Not that my husband couldn't do it, but you know, that's what moms do. They do their kids' hair."

Isabella said: "It makes me feel like she's a mum pretty much to me.

"And it makes me excited for the next day to see what she does."

It's helping her in more ways than one, as well. The teachers at the school have said that she has gained confidence from the bus driver's acts of kindness.

When she arrived into class on the first day, her teacher Mrs Freeze noticed a difference in her.

She explained: "I just noticed her head was a little higher that morning, and she had a little more of a step."

That woman at the back gets it.

As for her father, he is very thankful that the bus driver stepped in to fill the gap, proving that the little things in life matter an awful lot.

Philip Pieri said: "I originally just gave her a crew cut because I didn't know how and it was all tangled and I couldn't get it out for anything.

"Tracy didn't have to step up, but she stepped up to help out. I was amazed."

There you go - a happy story to get you through the day. There are nice folks out there after all.
