If you found out that one of your close mates was suffering from terminal cancer, what would you do? Well, pretty much everything within your power to make their lives as rich and full as possible, right?

This time, our 'LAD Of The Week' is Chris Glaba, from Manchester. In February, he went to the doctors regarding persistent heartburn. However, the reality was that he was suffering from stomach, kidney and liver cancer. He's now got weeks to live.

This news would be devastating for anyone. However, Chris decided to take as many positives out of it that he could. He made a bucket list, and has been ticking them off one-by-one.

He always wanted to get married and have a stag do, so he 'married' his best girl mate in a fake ceremony last week.

Possibly the biggest challenge was to organise a festival. Chris has always been a huge music fan, working in the industry as a DJ and a promoter. He also wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support at the same time.

We spoke to one of his best mates, Ben Taylor, who has been part of the team helping to organise the event. Ben, Pippa Rankin and Michael Ward have been sorting it all out. He said: "The thing about Chris is that he'll always put everyone else first. He makes sure his friends are having the time of their lives.

"He always wanted his own festival, so we made it happen."

The event takes place today (Sunday 20 November) at Sound Control in Manchester. They've managed to get Maximo Park to come and do a full set, Kyle Falconer (from The View) is in attendance, The Sunshine Underground are doing a DJ set and even Bez from the Happy Mondays is taking part.

They're sorting out a massive raffle to raise as much funds as possible.

Chris' friend, Richard Kevill, told MEN: "Chris being ill has sent a shockwave through so many people's lives.

"But the way he has handled his illness is truly inspirational. He is by far the bravest person I know and it's a pleasure being his mate.

"He has so many good people around too and that makes everything that little bit easier. Everyone is pushing to raise money for charity and it's amazing that so much positivity can come out of something so horrible."

Chris doesn't actually know that he's been put forward as our LAD Of The Week, so we hope that he's as happy about receiving the title as we are to give him it.

If you want to donate to Macmillan, you can do so here.

We want to showcase YOUR stories. What are you doing to benefit the community? Is your mate doing something awesome for someone else? Even if you're just helping your next door neighbour in the cold winter months - we want to know about it. Email us with your story - [email protected] and you could be featured next week.
