Plenty of blokes were surprised to learn of Dale Clarke's story when he bravely came forward and spoke about his terminal penis cancer.

Most didn't even know that the penis was something that was susceptible to the disease, but Dale revealed that his case was irreparable, and he only had a few months left to live.

Sadly, Dale has now passed away.

An update was provided on his family's JustGiving page, which read: "It is with great sadness that we wish to let everyone know that Dale lost his fight for life yesterday; he passed away peacefully in his sleep.

"Dale showed extreme bravery throughout. He was in so much pain but never lost his sense of humour and battled as hard as he possibly could until the cancer got into his bone marrow and he could fight no more.

"Dale died knowing so many people cared about him."

Heartbreakingly, the news of his death comes just a few weeks before his fiancée Paige was due to give birth to their second child, which the statement acknowledged, adding: "The fabulous amount of money raised on here went towards preparing for the new baby and a lovely new house with much more affordable rent."

The joiner was first confronted by the cancer growing inside him when he went to the doctor with the belief he was suffering from an infection and was struggling to go to the bathroom.

He says the cancer, at the start, was about the size of a grain of rice and in just three weeks it grew to a grape.

Mr Clarke did virtually everything to prevent the cancer from happening, including five operations, nine rounds of radiotherapy and two rounds of chemotherapy, but after all that, doctors eventually told him that nothing more could be done.

They added that he was one of the youngest people to get the cancer and his type was incredibly aggressive.

When he first got his diagnosis, he says it destroyed him as a person due to the pain as well as the thought he wasn't going to be around for his young family.

"The pain was unbelievable. It was that bad that I would try not to go to the toilet," he said.

"I was going about once a day and was crying with the pain. It was like the worst kind of burning. I remember when they phoned me to confirm it was cancer, I couldn't say anything."

There are more than 600 cases of penis cancer in the UK alone every year and Dale wanted other blokes to be able to recognise the warning signs to ensure people can get on top of it early.

Those symptoms include a growth, rash, swelling or ulcer on the penis, changes in the colour of the penis, skin thickening, blood coming from anywhere around the organ or unexplained pain.
