Aldi's Wagyu Beef Burgers Back By Popular Demand

The supermarket's famous burgers, inspired by very expensive cuts of Japanese beef, have a history of selling out at rapid speed.

Aldi has brought back its famous wagyu beef burgers by popular demand and they'll soon be on sale across stores for - characteristically for Aldi - a bargain price.

The supermarket brought back its killer Wagyu steaks earlier this month, which have a history of selling out before you can say 'Galahad', and now it has backed that up with its reinvigorated take on the posh Japanese beef in burger form.

They will be popping up in stores from Thursday 2 August with a price tag of just £3.49 - for a bit of perspective, Wagyu burgers in the most high end restaurants will set you back up to £40.

The wagyu beef takes its name from meat taken from four breeds of Japanese cattle, including the famous Kobe Wagyu, which can sell for hundreds, even thousands of pounds per kilo.

The meat is famous for its higher percentage of monounsaturated fats, which marble the cut and melt when cooked, making for a uniquely tender burger.

An Aldi spokesperson said: "Made with premium quality Wagyu beef from cattle bred and grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures, the burgers will be available in stores for a fraction of the price of high-end restaurants."

Although Wagyu is the term used to describe different types of beef in Japan, the cattle it comes from has to be reared according to strict guidelines.

And while cattle breeders have attempted to recreate the quality and taste of Wagyu beef using methods rumoured to enhance the quality of the meat their cows produce - such as feeding them beer or giving them massages - these have been discounted as mere myths.

So, stop massaging and getting your cows drunk - it looks like the most efficient way you're going to get your hands on a cut of Wagyu is down at Aldi.

The best way to cook the Wagyu steaks is supposedly on a high temperature either on a barbecue or frying pan.

And their Wagyu products aren't the only meat deals Aldi wants everyone to know about this week - they're also doing Jamaican jerk sausages at £1.89 per 400g, chicken burgers for £1.99 for 454g and paprika pork loin steaks with tomato and sherry butter for £2.79 per 350g.

God, I'm hungry now.
