Brits Upset After American TikToker Reviews UK Chocolate

Ailis Connors managed to wind up Brits when she reviewed much-treasured UK snacks like the Crunchie and the Flake

When it comes to winding up Brits, all you really have to do is take something they really like and say something remotely negative about it. See Exhibit A below:

Snacks are a prime example of things that people get pretty defensive about - dare we say 'patriotic', even.

Just think about how Brits have been known to react when others have messed with the classic brew, the staples of a Sunday roast, or the ingredients of a full English breakfast. You understand now, don't you?

So when US-based TikToker Ailis Connors posted some videos in which she tastes and reviews British chocolate bars, no one should have been surprised by some of the wounded responses.

In her first video, which has received nearly two million views, Ailis investigates a Double Decker, a Crunchie and a Curly Wurly.

Starting with the Double Decker, she says: "There's, like, nougat on top and these little crispy things on the bottom."

Well, she's not wrong. So far, so uncontroversial. But then things get interesting.

Ailis continues: "Next up we have a Crunchie. Yeah, so this s*** just fell apart as soon as I opened it. Umm, here we go. By the way, the Double Decker was an eight out of ten."

Returning to the Crunchie, she says: "OK, I'm not entirely sure what this is but it's definitely crunchy. The package says it's golden honeycomb - it tastes kinda like caramel to me though, I'll give it a six out of ten."

Six out of ten for a Crunchie?

Only six out of ten! For the noble Crunchie! This is worse than setting fire to Buckingham Palace, mate.

The Curly Wurly also falls apart, with Ailis expecting it to taste like a 'chocolate covered pretzel'. She's then shocked to find the chewy caramel centre.

A follow-up video, which has received over 735,000 views, sees Ailis trying a Wispa (eight out of ten) and a Twirl (also eight out of ten). OK, fair enough, we can recover this

Then it comes to the Flake, however, as she says: "OK, this thing is going to make a huge mess and just be mad inconvenient, but here we go.

"I feel like this is just a Twirl without the outer shell keeping it all together." She's got a point here, to be fair, so I can't argue when she issues a five out of ten score 'based on cleanliness alone'.

People have commented on her videos to express their outrage at the reviews, with one saying: "Crunchie is a top tier chocolate bar," while another added: "You're telling me you're comparing FRICKIN GOLDEN HONEYCOMB TO CARAMEL?! Ugh and you gave it a 6/10. No thanks."

Another viewer wrote: "As a British person I am just so triggered."

The final chocolate bar Ailis tried was the Starbar (review: 'amazing'), which seems to be less controversial. As one person commented: "I mean I'm British but... what the hell is a Starbar?"
