Along with Vegemite, Victoria Bitter, lamingtons and fairy bread, a Bunnings sausage sandwich is one of things that just screams true-blu Australiana.

While they don't cost much at all, if you live in Melbourne you're going to be treated to a freebie for today only.

A pop-up sizzle is open in the city's Federation Square and staff will be handing out 3,000 sausages from 7am to 6pm.

What's even better is for every sausage handed out, Bunnings will donate the usual $2.50 fee to Melbourne City Mission, a non-profit that 'works with some of Melbourne and Victoria's most vulnerable individuals, families and communities'.

But these sauso sandos won't be the usual white bread, sausage, onions and sauce combo that you're used to.

Chef Shane Delia has created a sandwich that is based off his Middle Eastern heritage.

"When I was approached to create my own Bunnings sausage recipe, I was instantly inspired by smokey eggplant BBQs," Delia told 7NEWS.com.au.

"I have simply added my own unique twist with a combination of middle eastern flavours which remind me of my family's cooking growing up."

If you're wanting a sausage sandwich, all you have to do is go to the pop-up store in Fed Square and post a picture of it on Instagram with a #tagforasnag in the caption.

Simples.

It's all to celebrate Bunnings new Click & Collect store, which allows people to look up what they want and need on an app and an attendant will fish it out for you at the counter.

None of this endless running up and down aisles looking for that one specific sized nut or bolt.

Bunnings' Managing Director, Mike Schneider added to 7NEWS.com.au: "We know shoppers love coming into our stores for our team's expertise and of course a snag but allowing customers to browse and shop online to then duck in quickly to pick up their items when they are short on time, is another we can service our customers even better."

If you consider yourself a bit of a Bunnings sausage sandwich expert then you might want to head to the one in Warrnambool in Victoria.

It's been receiving reviews on Tripadvisor that are nothing short of Biblical praise.

It's the ninth best 'restaurant' in the whole city out of 92 other eateries. It's been dubbed the 'Bunnings Restaurant' on the rating website and has scored an impressive 4.5 out of 5, with 69 reviews.
