Couple Recreates McDonald's Cheese Melt Dippers Using Babybels

Couple Recreates McDonald's Cheese Melt Dippers Using Babybels

A McDonald's fan and his girlfriend have worked out how to recreate the chain's infamous cheese bites - and not only do they look great, they also look pretty simple to make. Check out the recipe in the video below:

Rees Edwards-Caulier and his girlfriend Kirsty Simpson decided to film a TikTok video to show other McDonald's lovers how to make them.

Surprisingly you will only need four ingredients: Babybel, breadcrumbs, flour and an egg, all whisked up. Oh, and don't forget - you'll need a deep fat fryer as well.

First of all you need to unravel the wax from your Babybel and roll it in the flour. According to The Mirror, Kirsty used self-raising flour but plain will apparently work just as well.

Then you'll roll the now floured cheese ball into the egg, covering it all over. After pouring some breadcrumbs (Kirsty and Rees used Tesco's own golden breadcrumbs) into a bowl, you will need to chuck in your flour-and-egg-coated Babybel - making sure it's entirely covered.

Then you'll heat up enough oil to cover the entire Babybel. Using a spatula, pop the fully coated cheese into the oil and wait.

Once golden brown, you'll want to flip them over to even everything out and remove. Pat dry on some kitchen paper... and there we have it. Your very own (not) McDonald's cheese bites.

The video, which was posted to Rees' TikTok, has so far ended up with nearly 250,000 likes and people have commented to show their admiration.

One wrote: "I did it one hour ago... They were so good," while another added: "I had a dream I was making these LMAO."

A third wrote: "Can't lie that looks so good."

McDonald's Is Reopening For Drive Thrus And McDelivery This Week

While we're on the subject of recreating your favourite fast food bites, it's worth reminding everyone that our favourite lunchtime spot shared a recipe a couple of weeks ago for the sausage, bean and cheese melt. That's right, folks. Greggs showed us how to recreate a classic.

First of all, you're going to need some ingredients. Most you'll probably have, others you might need to go out for - use your shop wisely and get whatever you need for the next few days or week.

You're going to need to have beans and bangers (usually tinned together, you know the kind), some cheese, puff pastry and an egg.

You might be best whacking your oven on at this stage (Greggs tell us to put it at 180°C which equates to gas mark 4), then you want to cut out two squares of pastry and egg wash the edges.

Put the bean and sausage duo into a bowl and get squishing with a fork before popping the mixture in the middle of the pastry (leaving some room where the egg wash is).

Sprinkle your cheese on top of the beans and pop your identical square of pastry on top. Then you need to press your fork down on the edges of the square you've created to seal the parcel.

Do a final egg wash across the entire bake-to-be and throw it into the oven for 20 minutes - or until golden brown/piping hot throughout.
