Sometimes being allowed to enjoy a thing at the absolute peak of its quality can, in turn, diminish your experiences of what you had previously been entirely happy with.
A case in point for me has been burgers. At the beginning of this year I was perfectly content with the standard I was getting - even when they'd been microwave-cooked in chain pubs or overdone in bistro bars. Then I went to America. Ever since, having experienced what a burger should actually taste like, your-run-of-the-mill British counterparts haven't really cut it.
One of the few places I can still eat at without thinking 'what the fuck is this rubber shite?', is Gourmet Burger Kitchen - so imagine my delight when I heard the chain was planning on giving out free burgers.
Writing on social media, Gourmet Burger Kitchen said: "Tomorrow we're uniting a divided nation with, you guessed it, burgers.
"Just bring your EU passport into any of our restaurants in the mainland UK on Monday Oct 16th, and if you're in the first 50 people to do so? Voila - You get a completely free, on us, Brisket Burger. De-lish. Togetherness never tasted so good."

GBK's newly-released Brisket Burger is 6oz beef, salt beef brisket, burgernaise, Edam cheese, paprika onions, pickled cucumber, house relish and a pretzel bun. They say it 'brings the best of British and European ingredients together, working in harmony in one bun'.
Explaining why they're doing the give-away, GBK said: "We've done this before with Brazilians (in 2014 after they were clobbered 7-1 in the football World Cup) and New Zealanders (when they won the Rugby World Cup in 2015). It's fun."
Sadly it's just the burger that's free, so you'll still have to pay for your chips and drink. But free is free.
