Have A Peri Peri Christmas With The New Nando's Christmas Burger

Have A Peri Peri Christmas With The New Nando's Christmas Burger

Nando's inject a bit of South African heat into the coldest time of year with the Mzansi burger, available from 1st December.

We've seen a fair few Christmas burgers doing the rounds - usually with a couple of roast spuds and stuffing balls wedged in there, doused in gravy and topped with a pig in blanket. Maybe a bit of cheeky deep-fried brie.

Now that everyone's doing them, you've got to work hard to stand out from the crowd - and Nando's is on the case with a slightly alternative Christmas burger. Having clearly looked at what else is out there, the popular chicken joint has clearly just said 'Nah. We're doing things our way'.

This year, the Nando's way is The Mzansi Christmas Burger, which fobs off the seasonal favourite of turkey in favour of, obviously, chicken. A Peri Peri chicken breast fillet and flame-grilled thigh, to be exact. Trimmings on this one then include a mushroom and chestnut pâté, festive slaw, crispy onions and cranberry sauce.

Hold on, rewind: the new Nando's Christmas burger has mushroom and chestnut pâté? These guys are going posh this year, and we're into it.

Seems everyone else is into it, too, with heart-eye emojis all round for the long-awaited festive special:

Last year the festive special from Nando's was the Peri-Berry burger, which was made up with flame-grilled boneless chicken thigh and chicken breast fillet, on a bed of baby spinach and peri-berry chutney (a combo of cranberries, raspberries and blueberries) infused with peri perichillies.

This year's Mzansi burger is named after the word for 'South Africa' in Xhosa - that's one of the 11 official languages spoken in the country - and according to Nando's is "inspired by traditional Christmas flavours mixed with some South African heat."

The burger is available from 1st December and costs £9.25 on its own - but you would never go to Nando's and not have sides, would you? That would be stupid. It's £10.95 with one regular side and £12.65 with two.

Peri Peri Christmas indeed.
