Marathon Bar Set For Return Due To Overwhelming Public Demand

Marathon Bar Set For Return Due To Overwhelming Public Demand

Marathon bars are back. This is not a drill, folks. Mars Wrigley has today announced that the Marathon bar will be returning to shelves in August after proving to be a smash hit with the British public last year.

It was so popular in fact, that chocolate lovers with a refined taste for nutty nostalgia bought over four million Marathon bars in just 12-weeks. Pretty impressive, right?

Demand for Marathon bars was so high that Morrisons were forced to introduce a limit on how many packs a customer could buy.

The chocolate treats will hit Morrisons and McColl's stores on 10 August but, once again, it will be for a limited time of three months.

David Manzini, general manager at Mars Wrigley UK said: "At Mars Wrigley we're all about creating better moment through our sweet treats.

"It's clear that after nearly 30 years away, people loved the return of the Marathon bar last year. When the British public speaks, we always aim to deliver!

"It's great that after making chocolate in the UK for nearly 90 years people still love our chocolate!"

If you weren't aware, Marathon is the former name of the Snickers bar - and it will be sold under its former name for a limited time. In the UK and Ireland, Snickers bars were sold as Marathons until 19 July 1990 - which is why many won't remember them.

Back in 2019 when they made them available for the first time, Mars brand director Gemma Buggins told the Mail on Sunday: "Bringing the Marathon bar branding back for a limited time really was a no-brainer.

"It's a great way to celebrate more than 85 years of Mars making chocolate in the UK and we hope this serves as a wonderful treat for fans of Snickers who remember when it was called Marathon."

Earlier this year, Mars Wrigley brought Opal Fruits back to the shelves, more than 20 years after they were given a new lease of life as Starburst.

A press release from the sweet manufacturer said: "The treat will be offered in its original flavour format," adding that this includes the separate lemon and lime sweets - which were merged with the introduction of Starburst to make way for a blackcurrant flavour.

If you didn't manage to grab yourself a pack (or 10), maybe they will be doing a second roll-out - like Marathon bars? Here's hoping.
