Everyone loves a freebie, especially when you don't have to try that hard to get it.

So you'll probably be delighted to know that you can get a free Quarter Pounder at McDonald's around Australia today because it's International Burger Day.

Who knows why we need a day to celebrate burgers (even though they are goddamn delicious), but if it means free burgers then can we really complain that much?

The fast food juggernaut has 250,000 burgers to give away, which can be accessed by the mymacca's app.

McDonald's has recently revealed it will be switching up the cooking method for some of our favourite burgers to ensure they're absolutely perfect. Apparently the patties will be seared for 40 seconds exactly because that'll make them as juicy as possible and the onions will be cooked on the same grill as the meat for extra flavour.

McDonald's Australia vice-president Sharon Paz told news.com.au: "We've undertaken extensive research, testing and trials as we've developed our new restaurant processes and are confident our customers will agree our burgers taste better than ever before.

"We're proud of the quality of the food we serve, but we're always looking for ways to give our customers the best-tasting burgers we can.

"Over the last 18 months, we've spent countless hours optimising how we prepare, cook and serve our classic burgers to give our customers hotter, juicier and tastier Big Macs, Quarter Pounders and Cheeseburgers."

I mean, whatever they need to do to make their burgers better, we're happy.

But the company got themselves into a bit of hot water last month for April Fool's Day when they announced a pickle burger was coming.

While some might think that would be rank, others were absolutely beaming about it.

When Macca's eventually said it was all a joke, they had a lot of angry pickle loving people on their hands demanding they follow through with the burger offer.
