Slow cookers are the best because not only can you come home to a ready dinner, but your property ends up smelling like delicious lamb shanks or chilli con carne.

While some people might hate that thought, others absolutely pine for it. So it's not hard to see why this mum's latest slow cooker recipe is going viral on social media.

Many use the cooker to make dinner while they're at work, but what about making a big, old fashioned breakfast while you sleep?

Ara Haddon's hack has been posted onto the Facebook group Slow Cooker Recipe & Tips and people are loving it.

The recipe is as follows: "Been meaning to try it for ages. Verdict: Best.Idea.ever! This will be us every big breakfast morning.

"Place all breakfast ingredients in the slow cooker like in the photo. Bacon and sausages along the sides so they crisp up (next time I will try using baking paper to help keep them from sticking to the sides).

"Saucy stuff like baked beans and mushrooms into individual cups so they don't end up a big mash.
Mushrooms: I added garlic, butter, and a dash of cream. In the morning I put them on the stove top to thicken the sauce.

"Hashbrowns: I want to try putting them along the edges as well next time to see if that helps them get crispy. They were still delicious as is.

"I turned the slow cooker on low at 11pm, I got up at 8am and it looked like it had been ready for awhile. We ate at around 9am."

Ara said the only thing she had to do in the morning was chuck the bread in the toaster and cook the eggs, which, to be fair, only takes a couple of minutes. Then you're ready to feast on a corker of a big brekkie.

After the post was uploaded to Facebook, people have been tagging their mates in their droves about the chance to wake up to a delicious meal.

There were some people who were worried that the food would be overcooked overnight, which is a genuine concern, so you might have to tinker with the settings a tiny bit to ensure you don't end up with rock hard and over-crispy food.

But this just proves slow cookers are a bloody good treasure chest that can cook just about anything and everything. So give it a whirl if you're keen.
