Japan Fixes Giant Sinkhole In Just Two Days And Then Apologises For The Inconvenience

What an incredible response.

Remember that giant sinkhole that appeared in the middle of a busy city in Japan the other day? You know, the one that measured about 30 metres wide and 15 metres deep? Well, just two days after it emerged it's now repaired and the five-lane street that was completely destroyed has also been reopened.

The incident occurred in a busy business district in the southwestern city of Fukuoka. Miraculously, there were no reports of any injuries.

Right on cue, this has reminded the good people of the UK how rubbish their roads are and, more importantly, how naff the council is at fixing street surfaces.

Demonstrating to the rest of the world how it should be done, Japanese workers reacted to the incident almost immediately. They grafted around the clock to repair the site by dumping huge amounts of wet cement and about 6,200 cubic metres of sand into the gaping hole. As well as this, the legends also fixed electricity, gas and water lines which had been affected.

The main road reopened to traffic and pedestrians early this morning after local officials declared the repaired stretch safe, according to the Guardian.

In a statement, Fukuoka's Mayor Soichiro Takashima said: "We're very sorry for causing great trouble."

How many times have the local council apologised for the state of the roads near you? Yeah, I'm waiting for that statement, too.
