Since leaving school I reckon the majority of us have flushed out most of the things we've learnt, because let's be honest, 80% of it was bollocks.

I've been out of school for about five years now, and I'm still waiting for a situation to present itself where Pythagoras' theorem will help me out. You can shove it up your arse, Mr Burns.

A recent survey conducted by YouGov found that 30% of adults have forgotten key principles of English, maths and science that were taught in school.

2,000 adults took part in the survey and were challenged with tasks centered around long division, multiplication, grammar, punctuation, planets and photosynthesis.

Remember mean, median and mode? Remember how to calculate them? Nope, me neither. 35% of people who took part couldn't work out the mode, 31% the median and 28% the mean. I don't blame them, I wouldn't have a clue where to fucking start.

23% of the 2,000 were unable to do multiplication, whereas 25% were unable to do long division.

Over on the literate side of things, 23% of the people in the study admitted to not knowing what a semi-colon is used for. A further 18% struggled with the concept of apostrophes; and 17% commas.

As for oxymorons, similes and metaphors, 34%, 24% and 20% couldn't remember what they were.

Moving on to the scientific world, which I cannot comment on because I blagged my entire way through my science GCSE, 24% of people couldn't name every planet in our solar system. 19% couldn't remember the greenhouse effect and 21% had forgotten all about photosynthesis.

41% couldn't explain or name any groups in the periodic table. The only memory I have of the periodic table in school was throwing a tuna sandwich at it because my mate expertly ducked out of the way of it, so I really don't blame that 41%.

Can any of you remember any of these things? Try this quiz to see if you can.
