Australians are pretty proud of their cars, especially if they're a Ford or a Holden.

However, it seems like there is one car that has been discovered that has been bestowed with the title of the country's 'rarest vehicle'.

This 1970 XY Falcon is the only model Ford ever made to feature six doors and it has been found in immaculate condition.

A fleet was ordered by TAA Airlines in Tasmania to ferry around VIPs back in the day and they were certainly ritzy.

Boasting six doors as well as the boot, this shaggin' wagon is considered a 'one-of-a-kind' in the motoring world, with an eight-cylinder 351 Cleveland engine, an 8ft chrome roof rack, four disc brakes, full Fairmont trim and factory integrated air conditioning.

Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions, said while bidding will start at $1, he expects this little beauty to go for a hefty price.

"This Ford XY Falcon Wagon embodies collectability and could be the rarest car ever manufactured in Australia," said Hames.

"It's the holy grail for Ford fans, the only one of its kind and it is in immaculate condition.

"The story behind this car is just as special as the car itself. Winning numerous awards and featuring in auto magazines all around Australia, it has received great attention already, with enquiries flooding in since being published online."

There are only 13,217 miles clocked on the speedometer so you know there's been virtually no wear and tear on it.

Sadly, while the bidding started at $1, it seems like people have already started laying the big bucks down. The current bid is $51,000 and there's still five days left of the auction.

The listing says the car 'is a collectors dream and presents an incredibly rare investment opportunity'. So, if you're keen to own a piece of history then jump into it.
