Labour, we're told, is a pretty difficult thing to go through. Sure, it brings beautiful new life into the world, but that doesn't mean that it's a walk in the park, does it?

Well, one woman decided to thicken the plot even more - by photographing the birth of her child herself.

Lauren Chenault, a 25-year-old photographer from Rockville, New York, managed to persevere through the pain to capture the process in a series of incredible pictures.

She'd hoped to originally photograph the birth of her first child, Kailah, back in 2015, but Lauren was forced to concede that it probably wouldn't be a great idea, given that it was her first pregnancy and she didn't really know what to expect.

However, after finding out the she was expecting again less than a year later, the photo studio owner grew determined to capture her son's first moments on camera.

Lauren, who owns the You're My Focus photography studio, said: "I wanted to do it with the birth of my daughter, but I didn't know I would have to hold my own legs, so I didn't happen.

"With my son I came prepared with my friends in there to hold my legs for me and the camera resting on my stomach."

Sitting the camera on her tummy, Lauren clicked away while simultaneously pushing - and even managed to get the moment that son Kai took his first breaths.

She continued: "My family was amazed I was able to capture it, but my husband wasn't surprised - when I put my mind to something, I make it happen.

"This was so important to me, I think it portrays how women really are superheroes."

The mum-of-two recently shared the photos to social media to celebrate a year on from the impressive labour, admitting that the photographs will always hold a very 'special place' in her life.

"I couldn't believe I actually got the shot - I took about 30 images but only two were usable," Lauren added.

"It was a total adrenaline rush when everything was happening, my mind was focusing on pushing but I had to remember to click the button.

"My son is probably going to kill me when he's older, for plastering his fresh naked face all over the internet.

"Having these photos will always hold a special place for it me - it speaks 10,000 times louder than words ever could."

Yeah, this brings a whole new meaning to the idea of multi-tasking. Fair play to her.
