Celebrating Google Maps: The Good, The Bad, And The Downright Unpleasant

What did we do before Google Maps, eh? If you were going somewhere in the 1990s and didn't know the way you'd have to walk blindly, checking every bus stop map you could find or - fuck knows - ask someone else for directions.
Luckily, the good people at Google have saved you the trouble of having to interact with another human being by providing you with an accurate and extensive map covering most of the globe.
On top of that, with the introduction of Street View, Google is always watching. That means that you are no longer safe on the streets as even the slightest fail could be captured.
This does create a bit of room for fun, though. For every guy picking his nose there is a group of school kids who drew a giant d*** on their school fields as a prank.
Google has updated its Bunbury map showing off the brand spanking new waterfront. But what's more interesting is what's happening at the local high school.... #leaversprank? pic.twitter.com/FtZ1Uw0IOv

There is
probably a whole article to be written about people who've drawn rude objects on top
of things to catch Google out, but there have been many different weird and
wonderful things caught by the Google cameras.
In a great piece of Google prank-making, a clever Everton fan rigged the site's search results last year so that when anyone searched for 'gobshites' it directed users straight to Liverpool FC's home ground, Anfield.
Not everyone is so savvy, though, and lots of people have been caught in compromising positions as the famous camera car has come to visit their local area.
Imagine this man's surprise at being captured and preserved forever on the internet whilst doing his daily naked yoga outside your house, which appears to be on a busy street. I feel for his neighbours.

Seriously, what exactly is this man trying to do? Why is he doing it outside on the street? So many questions.
The all-seeing eyes of the world's biggest search engine also caught this creepy guy in Italy leering at a woman whilst hurtling down the road on his scooter. Keep your eyes on the road, mate.

This woman clearly took her eyes off the road before ending up in a ditch by the side of a road in Japan.
They've even captured conclusive (or perhaps not) proof of actual aliens that live among us. Look at this guy spotted on a balcony in France.
Well, you can't anymore, because Google has censored him - Illuminati confirmed.
There's also this UFO landing site in Australia - which is also censored. That might be even creepier than the guy on the scooter.
Never change, Google Maps.
