Have you been trying to get a new job with no luck whatsoever? Well that might be all about to change.

That's if you take the advice of Certified Resume Strategist Greg Langstaff, who claims this top tip has an 100 percent success rate. Is Greg giving it big spuds?

Apparently, he's used this strategy on every single job he's applied for and now people that use it on him have had similar results and gone on to be hired.

Greg says that instead of just preparing for the generic interview questions such as 'where do you see yourself in five/ten years time?' or 'what are you strengths and weaknesses?', you should instead bring something the interviewer(s) didn't actually ask for that shows your ability to do the job efficiently.

According to The Ladders, a good example would be if you were applying for a job in social media marketing. The publication explained you should 'prepare and bring a social media campaign specifically for that company - that they didn't ask for'.

As well as probably making you stand out from everyone else, you'll also be showing how well you can take on the role as well as giving off a good enthusiastic attitude.

The most important thing however is that you're going about it the right way.

Your pitch/example needs to be decent, let's be blunt about it. Providing a poorly put together campaign would be pretty useless.

Giving some examples of things you can prepare, The Ladders wrote:

  • Event planner position - bring an example of an event plan that is relevant to the company
  • Analyst - do a mock up analysis of the company to show your ability to do the job
  • Strategic planner - craft a strategic plan tailored around the company
  • Program manager - create a program outline and use the company in the example
  • Market researcher - conduct specific market research related to the organization and present it during the interview

One thing you should really not do is speak to absolutely anyone like they don't matter to the company you're interviewing at.

As one person found out the hard way when they spoke to the receptionist like a piece of work.

The tale was shared on the Reddit 'Life Pro Tips' forum, and it reads as follows: "Today, a candidate blew his interview in the first 5 minutes after he entered the building.

Storyblocks

"He was dismissive to the receptionist. She greeted him and he barely made eye contact. She tried to engage him in conversation. Again, no eye contact, no interest in speaking with her.

"What the candidate did not realise was that the 'receptionist' was actually the hiring manager.

"She called him back to the conference room and explained how every single person on our team is valuable and worthy of respect.

"Due to his interaction with the 'receptionist', the hiring manager did not feel he was a good fit. Thank you for your time but the interview is over.

"Be nice to everyone in the building."
