An influencer says she temporarily lost her vision and was left with facial scarring after attempted a freckle beauty 'hack' she saw on TikTok.

Tilly Whitefield, who appeared on a series of Big Brother currently airing in Australia, took to Instagram to explain why she was wearing a blue face mask on the show.

The 21-year-old explained to her to 77,300 followers that her face was left 'unrecognisable' and she was 'very sick' after attempting the DIY procedure.

It backfired horribly.

She said: "For those asking why I have my blue clay face mask on continuously throughout the show this is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered.

"This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at home beauty procedure I saw on a TikTok video 2 months before Big Brother. Who bloody else would manage to do such a thing?"

The reality TV star went on to warn people against attempting such hacks.

She said: "Please please don't try any 'DIY' or 'at home' beauty procedures I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable. Leave it to the professionals."

Speaking to The New York Times, Tilly said the hack saw her use ink and needles to give herself fake freckles.

She said the video claimed the freckles would fade within six months, but it didn't specify what kind of ink you should use, so she bought brown tattoo ink online.

It cost Tilly $12,000 (£8,000) in doctor's fees to treat the damage.

Tilly's Instagram post went on: "This is deep below surface level scarring and dark pigmentation, whilst I'm fortunate enough to not have keloid scarring and the surface of my skin is smooth, the pigmentation is very dark and obvious.

"I literally shoved needles deep into my skin this is not a rash."

LADbible understands the original henna freckle trend did not violate TikTok's Community Guidelines, but unfortunately Tilly used a different type of ink.
