Milk First Or Last? Experts Put The Ultimate Tea Debate To Bed

People need to know the truth.

Now I know everyone's different in this world, and there's a lot of room for variation - but if you can't make a decent cuppa, I'm sorry, we will not be friends.

Too much milk is a disaster. A weak cup of tea is pointless. And if you're lumping more than two sugars in there you may as well leave.

But those are only my opinions. So what's actually the correct way to make a brew?

Well, if you're putting the milk in first (what's the matter with you, are you clinically insane?) you're doing it wrong.

A couple of 'tea experts' (which is a fucking great job), Sebastian Michaelis and Tim d'Offay, revealed that if you put milk in your mug before the water you'll 'reduce the temperature and inhibit the brewing'.

They also suggest that how long you ultimately let the tea bag brew is down your tastes, but let's be honest, you should be leaving it for a minimum of at least three minutes.

Alternatively, just squish the teabag against the edge of the mug with a spoon a few times.
