Artist Creates Incredible Australian Vegemite Stitch Artwork

It took Alexandria around eight hours to bring this beautiful work of art to life.

There are plenty of ways to pay homage to Australian culture.

You can whack a couple of Lamingtons down your gob, cheer on your favourite NRL or AFL team while burning your tongue on a hot pie, down a few schooners of Aussie Pale Ale at the pub, belt out all the lyrics to Daryl Braithwaite's 'The Horses'; I could go on.

Clearly, you can illustrate your pride in Australia in a multitude of ways, but one person has shown an intricate and beautiful method.

Reddit user u/ApprehensiveCouch posted her incredibly rude but epic cross stitching pattern of a Vegemite jar.

The best thing is that the artist isn't even Australian and she was just trying to show support for her Aussie partner.

Speaking to LADbible, Alexandria said: "I spread the work out across a couple weeks but in total it probably took 7-8 hours of straight work (I'm a very slow stitcher and made a couple mistakes that I wanted to correct). Its about 12.5 x 15.5 cm.

"I'm from California originally and heard Australian slang for the first time when I heard my partner and his friends talking [and I] thought it was absolutely hilarious that they would throw these phrases into conversation like nothing.

"The word 'c***' especially, since back home its very taboo. He encouraged me to post because I was a bit nervous how people would respond to it."

Since it's been posted onto Reddit it's racked up hundreds of upvotes, with many appreciating the fine craftswomanship.

Alexandria found the cross stitching pattern on Etsy, but added a few lines to include the 'MADC***' part and we're so glad she did.

She's faced loads of calls to sell the artwork however she's insisted that it is a gift for her partner. But if you want to get the same type of thing then you can head here and you can buy t-shirts, mugs, iPhone cases, socks and hoodies.
