Wayne Shaw became an unlikely hero last year when he outrageously resigned from his Non-League club Sutton United. Fans around the UK were shocked to see the bulky goalkeeper leave for just eating a pie.

But this wasn't just an ordinary pie.

The 46-year-old was named as a substitute against Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round. Sun Bets offered odds of 8/1 that the athlete would eat a pie on the bench during the game and lo and behold, Shaw chomped into a pie and the crowd went wild.

He claimed to have eaten the pasty to wind up Arsenal supporters, who were chanting 'who ate all the pies'. But the Football Association didn't take too kindly to the move and launched an investigation into whether he broke the rules on betting.

Over 1,700 people signed a petition to get him back in the job, but he eventually resigned from Suttton United once the investigation was done and dusted.

Since the pie eating scandal occurred, the former goalkeeper has revealed the strange journey he's been on, from being approached by a publication to be photographed wearing nothing but his keeper gloves, to supermarket chain Morrisons wanting him to be an official 'pie taster'.

But one year since his infamous moment, it appears it's been nothing but good things for Shaw, writing on Twitter: "1 year anniversary from #Piegate the best thing that has ever happened to me."

"And my family the support from everyone of you has been magnificent. Oh yes thank you the FA and SUFC for your support as well NOT. Living the dream.

"I have no bitterness towards anyone at Sutton FC. I enjoyed every moment I spent with the club everyone has moved on so enough said. I always look out for SUFC result first on a Saturday or Tuesday and enjoy watching the progress that Dos and the Team are achieving."

So what is Wayne Shaw up to now?

Back in May last year, it emerged that he had returned to football, joining AFC Totton as their new Commercial manager, per the club.

The Southern-League Division One South and West side announced their delight with signing Shaw and stated that he can be a huge success in his new role, saying: "We believe having Wayne on board will help this wonderful football club take a huge step towards realising its undoubted potential.

"Wayne has the bubbly personality and he is a Totton lad, so if anybody can make this a success of this role then it will be Wayne Shaw.

"We are proud to have Wayne on board and we wish him every success in his role as AFC Totton's commercial manager."

What a journey it has been.
