Football is coming home. There can no longer be any doubt.

Some astounding statistics are doing the rounds that show remarkable similarities between England's victorious World Cup winning year in 1966 and the current tournament.

When Loris Karius's hands turned to jelly and Gareth Bale scored arguably the greatest European cup final goal of all time in Real Madrid's triumphant Champions League final this year, neither might have guessed they were contributing to English World Cup history.

That is because Real Madrid were also victors of Europe in 1966 after a 2-1 victory in the final against Yugoslavian side Partizan.

Just mere coincidence, right? Well, that's just the start.

A pub near to Burnley's home ground of Turf Moor was recently renamed The Royal Dyche after their heroic manager Sean Dyche, who far exceeded fans' expectations this season after the side qualified for European football for the first time since - that's right - 1966.

And there is just one point difference between the Clarets' points tallies in those two seasons.

And do you know where Chelsea finished that season? Fifth. Do you know where they finished this season?? Fifth.

If you aren't already sweating with uncontrollable excitement, then either you're unbelievably cynical or you're simply not English.

Well maybe this last one will seal it.

Pep's unstoppable Manchester City broke a host of records this season, including scoring the most goals ever in a Premier League season and becoming the first team to secure a century of points.

They finished top of the table this year.

I'm sure by now you can guess where Manchester City finished in 1966.

Yes, maybe it was the second division they topped in 1966, but who cares. Football is coming home.
