Ever feel certain you belong in a different era of history? Ever look around at your surroundings and get the feeling you're just not of this time? Perhaps you need to change your surroundings to something a little more retro then.

Okay, retro might be a bit of an understatement with regards to this stunning Airbnb in Co. Kilkenny that is a restoration of an actual ancient castle once inhabited by Muircheartach, the King of modern-day Ulster. Situated just 20 minutes away from Kilkenny City, this unusual accommodation option promises to transport guests to a simpler time and give them the experience of being, quite literally, King of the Castle.

You might be staying in an ancient castle but don't expect to be living a medieval lifestyle whilst you're here. As you will see from the photographs, the castle's impressive restoration means this Airbnb has all the trimmings you will come to expect on a standard staycation getaway.

Upon waking up in this enchanting abode, why not begin your day by rejuvenating under the powerful rainforest showers found in the bathrooms? Or if you are looking to unwind, you can enjoy a soak in the castle's deep standalone bathtub.

Once you've towelled off, head towards the kitchen, or the Great Hall as it's fondly known, to catch up with your castle-mates and enjoy a piping hot cup of coffee. As you chat, take a moment to take in the breath-taking vistas of the forest and fields around you from bespoke velvet cushions whilst perched on one of the castle's large original window seats.

The castle's authentic, un-plastered walls create a cosy, cavernous effect that add to the experience of galivanting through its hallways like the High King you were born to be.

Should you ever decide to step outside of your new home, you'll find yourself in the heart of the Ancient East with a number of popular tourist attractions right on your doorstep. The Rock of Cashel is but a mere 30 minute drive away, or should you fancy driving further afield, Kinsale, Cork City, Dublin and Limerick are all only a 90 minute drive meaning you can momentarily re-join modern civilisation to pick up a few bits and pieces for the evening ahead before returning to where you truly belong.

If all that wasn't enough to convince you, the reviews of Tubbrid Castle really speak for themselves. "If you want to feel the spirit of Ireland-this place is for you! The castle itself is very unique. It is very old and gorgeous outside, but inside there is the symbiosis of old and modern," commented on reviewer named Elena from Moscow. "The smell of cleanliness is everywhere," she continued - and that would be one of our preferred smells!

Another guest named Danielle who travelled all the way from New York described Tubbrid Castle as being 'a perfect mix between fairy tale and modern-day luxury'. In fact, just last September the Airbnb owners took to Instagram to mark an important milestone - they had just passed the 100 reviews on their listing. How many of those reviews rated the experience five stars? Every single one of course.

The castle sleeps up to eight people for just €675 a night so don't waste any more time. Open that group chat and start wrangling your group together for this summer as you can be sure demand to stay here is high.
