As the opportunities for fun in Ireland once again begin to dwindle, with gigs cancelled, nightclubs closed and Christmas parties seemingly impossible, we find ourselves once again looking to the humble staycation as our only hope for a bit of excitement.

We recently came across this incredible Airbnb in Louth that looks like it could transport you back to a time before you'd ever heard the word 'coronavirus'. Several centuries before you'd heard it, actually, as this place is a genuine medieval tower, located just a short drive from Drogheda.

This truly unique pad sleeps four guests comfortably. It includes a super spacious living area with plush, luxurious interiors, a master double, plus a pull out bed for two. After making themselves at home, guests can explore the tower via a climbing cut stone staircase.

After some climbing you will eventually come out on the private roof terrace where you may be momentarily overwhelmed by the breathtaking views. Once you've become accustomed to your surroundings, it's the perfect place to enjoy a bottle of wine with friends and forget the realities of modern day living.

It's safe to say you won't find many options like Drummond Tower on Airbnb, but don't take our word for it. The reviews, as always, speak for themselves.

"Be kings of your own castle for a night! Eanan's Tower has everything you will need for an overnight stay and is exquisitely designed and furnished. The place was only completed a few years ago so everything is fresh and new," said one reviewer named Mike.

Another former guest named XX echoed Mike's sentiments, writing: "This is truly magical! Once in a life-time experience. Loved everything about it. Definitely recommend. My partner and I put on a roast and then listened to medieval music with some red wine." Sounds absolutely dreamy.

In our opinion, the best part of this place is the price. One night in Drummond Tower will set you back €327 for four guests which works out at just over €80 each - well worth it for what is sure to be in a staycation like you've never experienced before.
