After a year spent working remotely, staring at a screen whilst sat in your bedroom or kitchen, we think it's safe to say even those of us most committed to our work have pondered the possibilities of a brash career change.

The temptation to sack your entire career in to pursue to a lifelong passion such as painting, writing, knitting or travel blogging has occurred to many of us in the depths of lockdown. Back in March of last year, Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan even took to her Twitter to share an important public service announcement that read: "I know this time of self-isolation is hard and scary for people but however bad you are feeling - please, please don't consider starting your own podcast."

"Straight men under the age of 35 are particularly vulnerable to this and we all need to be vigilant of the dangers," the actress warned.

Not to stifle ambition but it's true that in reality, most of us should probably just stick to what we're good at and wait it out a little longer. However, if the lifelong passion you've always secretly dreamed of pursuing is in fact herding goats around North County Dublin then, reader, we may have the sign you've been waiting for.

The Old Irish Goat Society are currently recruiting for a new employee whose main responsibility will be herding and transporting goat herds around various sites in Howth 'to reduce the cover of gorse, graze fire breaks and to create a more structurally diverse heathland vegetation'. The herder will also monitor the health of the herd and carry out the necessary animal welfare treatments, amongst other responsibilities.

The role is being hired for at the moment and the chosen applicant will receive a salary of €45,000 a year - not too shabby at all we think you'll agree? Now, there are a few mandatories for applying of course. In addition to experience working with sheep or goat, you'll also have to have a valid driver's licence, an aptitude for problem solving and excellent organisational skills, according to the job listing.

Speaking about the opportunity to the Irish Examiner, Sean Carolan, of the OIGS, said: "We are looking for someone with herding experience with sheep or goats. The herder will manage the goat herd on Howth, move the goats on a daily basis from site to site and look after the breeding program."

If you think you've got what it takes to be Howth's next top goat herder, you can find all the details on how to apply here.
