Mum Shares Brilliant Hack To Get Rid Of Splinters

Mum Shares Brilliant Hack To Get Rid Of Splinters

Turns out all you need is the little syringe you get in a box of Calpol or Ibuprofen, and everyone's loving it

Splinters are a bit of a bitch, aren't they? Usually they're only little, but they don't half pack a punch.

Regardless of how you get them, or indeed where you get them (heaven forbid they be anywhere south of the border), they're painful. But there's another annoying factor that niggles at you - the difficulty of removing them is an extra ballache.

To soothe your troubles, however, one mum has found a simple way to remove them with something you might have lying around your house.

You could use tweezers, I guess, but I'm led to believe that can be something of a faff. Claire Bullen-Jones, however, swears by the little syringe you get in a box of Calpol or Ibuprofen, which makes it so much simpler.

"Kids got a splinter? Grab the Calpol box and take out the syringe that comes with it," Claire wrote on Facebook. "Make sure it's clean, obviously!

"You need to make sure there's a little bit of a gap before you start. Put the small hole at the bottom of the syringe as best you can over the splinter. Once you know you're above it, make sure the syringe is touching the skin-and pull!

"Make sure there's no gaps, otherwise you won't get it! The syringe will more than likely pull it out in the first go! Pain-free, no tugging and pulling, and no little ones upset or scared at getting it out!

"Don't pull slowly! You need to pull rather quickly! If it's a stubborn splinter, just do this a couple of times! Saves so much time, and well worth seeing the kids smile at the end of it rather than red faces and tears! Because the plastic is clear, you can check what's been taken out of the skin! Best parent hack to date! Pass it on, mums and dads!

"For those who've inboxed about the Calpol syringe, Ibuprofen come with them too! Doesn't matter which you use, they're both the same!"

In short, put the syringe over a splinter, then pull. Viola, look at that, splinter a-no more.

Her helpful tip has gone a long way - and perhaps unsurprisingly has gone down especially well with parents - as the post has been shared over 71,000 times, as well as having over 20,000 likes. The comments suggest it's a hack that actually works too, so well in, Claire.
