Comedian Goes On Holiday With A Bunch Of Strangers And Live Tweets It All

Comedian Goes On Holiday With A Bunch Of Strangers And Live Tweets It All

When strangers invited Ross Smith to replace their friend of the same name on holiday, he did the sensible thing - said yes and went.

By all accounts, back in the day, you didn't need to have your name on a plane ticket. So if, for whatever reason, you had a spare ticket for your honeymoon, you could invite any random stranger along for the flight.

Time, of course, have changed a lot. But technology has also advanced, and three friends decided to make the most of it when their friend, Ross Smith, was unable to make a trip to Hamburg with them this weekend.

So the trio - Tom Matthews, 28, Jan Pearce, 32, and Johnny Gardner, 34 - used Facebook to find another Ross Smith and invited him along in their friend's place. Which is genius. Unless the new Ross had turned out to be a serial killer. Or the other three had. Which seemed to be a concern of Ross' ahead of meeting the trio at Stansted airport.

As did finding the right outfit for his unexpected jaunt...

...which proved harder than anticipated.

There were worries about needing to learn another language...

...some portentous omens...

...and worries about fitting in with this total group of strangers.

But all seems to be going well, despite his bed...

...and having to sleep in it after a heavy LADs' night out.

On the whole, though, it seems that Ross is having a wild time so far. Of course, what happens in Hamburg stays in Hamburg.

Speaking to the Press Association from Hamburg, Ross said: "When I got the message inviting me to take their friend's place it really made me laugh. I showed it to my friend thinking how stupid it was.

"I went to reply telling them they have completely picked the wrong person. I went on a lads holiday in 2002 and I swore that I would never do that again. But my friends said I had to go.

"It's an adventure. It's a bit awkward meeting people you don't know - I think it's like a spider, they are just as scared of me as I am of them."

"My mum really didn't want me to go. She said 'I wouldn't do it if I were you' - and that made me think I should do it more. I thought this is an adventure now."

We look forward to more updates. Unless they really do turn out to be serial killers.
