Every Single Person In Manchester - We Salute You

Every Single Person In Manchester - We Salute You

What an incredible city.

LAD of the Week goes out to every single man, woman and child who resides in the proud city of Manchester.

The way in which the city and its residents reacted to something that was intended to tear the community apart has been nothing short of incredible.

Goosebumps! The amazing moment Manchester crowd joins in with woman singing Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger after minutes silence

People opened the doors to their homes to complete strangers. This is itself hard to comprehend. In a world where we ensure our doors and windows are locked every single night, thousands of people decided to overcome this fear of the unknown and offer out beds, cups of tea, phone chargers, and even just a hug and a shoulder to cry on.

Businesses went above and beyond what anyone would have ever expected. Did they think about their profit margins when they gave out free food, drinks and shelter? No. They did not.

Taxi drivers worked tirelessly without putting their meters on. Forgoing the fact that they need their wage to feed their own families and pay bills. Some worked through the night, desperately getting people home to their own worried families.

For a few days, the only important thing to the people of Manchester was that they helped each other out. Nothing else mattered.

Even now, days later, the amount of money donated to help the families of those injured and killed by this horrific incident is climbing.

The morning after the attack, the streets of Manchester were quiet. There was a strange atmosphere as people put their heads down and rushed to their destinations, either with their eyes firmly locked on the floor or with their phones pressed against their ears. However, the amount of people who stopped to talk to each other was immense.

In times when people usually ignore each other, such as waiting in line, people were opening up conversation. The simple question, 'Are you alright?', was asked more frequently than ever before.

You, the LADbible community, were talking about the everyday heroes who were trying to help out. You were supporting each other and calling out hate.

Jake Dorian Herring commented on one of our articles which outlined the incredible voluntary work being undertaken by the people of this great city. He wrote: "This is why I love Manchester. No matter what dreadful thing hits them, the people of Manchester always pull together and show their community spirit."

On a story regarding Chris Parker, the homeless man who ran towards the atrocity to help and held a woman in his arms as she died, Rosalia Smith wrote: "I am so proud to be British right now. The humanity of our country is beyond kind. Total strangers opening their doors and hearts to one another is so lovely. I wouldn't expect anything less from the British people.

"Terrorists may think they are breaking us when actually they are moulding us together to stand strong."

What happened was despicable. It was beyond comprehension that someone would attack an arena full of families, teenagers, kids... but did Manchester cower in fear? No. The city put everything else to one side, and concentrated on the most important thing - the people of Manchester.

For that, we salute every single one of you. Manchester, united.

We want to showcase YOUR stories. What are you doing to benefit the community? Is your mate doing something awesome for someone else? If there's something that you reckon deserves an article on LADbible - we want to know about it. Email us with your story - [email protected] and you could be featured.
