‘Callous Old Man’ Accused Of Dumping Elderly Dog In A Park

‘Callous Old Man’ Accused Of Dumping Elderly Dog In A Park

This is heartbreaking

Yvonne Radcliffe gave her 12-year-old dog Tess to a neighbour as she prepared to move to North America - thinking she was going to a good home. But despite agreeing to take her in, it appears the man later decided he didn't want anything to do with the pooch.

Tess was recently found alone in a park with just a little bit of food, her lead, and an emotionless letter disowning the terrier.

The note read: "The dog (Tessa) is 12 year [sic] old. Tessa is not my dog, my neighbour told me that Tessa is chipped. My neighbour asked me if I would take charge of Tessa as my neighbour has pland [sic] herself a new life (Canada). Reluctantly I said yes (but) I did know I will not keep Tessa. Tessa likes tea, coffee and watered milk. Tessa's first meal is close to 11:30am. My neighbour has gone to (Canada). My neighbour was happy thinking that Tessa is in good hand [sic]. Sorry for the above but I don't need a dog."

I don't know where to start. Firstly, I'm not a dog expert but I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to be fed tea or coffee. Secondly, he claims that Tessa is not his dog, despite having agreed to take the canine in and Yvonne thinking her former pooch had gone to a good home. Disgusting behaviour.

Alan Webster, who runs the South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance, found Tess. He gave her some food and then uploaded a picture of her to social media.

Speaking to the Sun about the incident, he said: "If [the neighbour] wanted it to be re-homed it could have been passed to us or anybody else. He is a callous old man."

People couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the post. Jenna Hurt said: "Literally brought me to tears. It's one thing somebody dumping the poor dog but actually thinking about it and trying to justify it by writing a note! How on earth can any human being live with their self after that?"

Yvonne's son, Paul, was stunned when he saw the photo of Tess posted on social media. He said: "I am upset but I'm more angry if I'm being honest. Mum was worried where Tess would go and didn't want her to go to a stranger.

"She had known the neighbour for over nine years and he told her that he had always wanted a dog."

Alan also wrote on the South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance Facebook page: "As for the Scumbag who dumped her - we now know who he is, and have ruled out any wrong doing of the original owner who has gone to the States to live."

The dog is now being cared for at Dogs Trust in Leeds before she's put up for adoption this weekend.
