People Are Losing Their S**t Over The Twix Spread That’s Available In Britain

People Are Losing Their S**t Over The Twix Spread That’s Available In Britain

It's only £2 a jar

For as long as we've known, Nutella has reigned supreme among the best sweet spreads out there. You can chuck it on bread, pancakes, crêpes... or even just scoop it out by the spoonful and devour it, usually without too much judgement. However, that top spot could now be up for grabs, thanks to a convincing case from Twix's own spread.

Yes, TWIX. It's has been a big contender in the chocolate bar arena for decades, but it's now made a foray into the spread section. Imagine the texture of crunchy peanut butter fused with the beautiful taste of Nutella, but more chocolatey with a hint of caramel.

They're only being sold in stores around the UK in 200g jars (which isn't nearly enough, where are the tubs?) and will only set you back £2 ($2.68). People on social media have been relaying their feelings about the gift from the heavens:

But there have been some people pointing out its high sugar content. The jars have 200g of delicious Twix spread inside, yet 104.8 grams of that is sugar. That's the equivalent of 26 teaspoons of the sweet, white additive that's been jammed into the product, which adds up to about 1,122 calories.

There have been a few others with nut allergies, however, who've offered the understandable complaint that the spread contains hazelnuts, but the chocolate bar doesn't.

The spread has been released by confectionary company Mars, which has told Mashable: "They are best enjoyed as a tasty treat, spread over warm toast or a crumpet, dunked with a breadstick, or topped on a cake or waffle."

Which essentially reads as: try not to eat too much in one sitting.

America has had to wait months for the product to reach its stores, but there are reports that the spread has been popping up at some retail stores. The US should count itself lucky that it was only a few months for Twix spread to travel across the Atlantic, considering that the chocolate bar was introduced in the UK in 1967, before eventually coming to America in 1979.

If Twix was never your first choice when deciding which bar to devour, Mars has got you covered. Last year it unveiled a spread of Bounty with flakes of coconut inside, along with a Malteasers one.

So if you've been staring at your cupboard with the stock standards options - jam, honey, butter, peanut butter and marmite (if you're feeling adventurous) - and have wanted to switch things up a bit, why not spread your favourite chocolate bar or treat across your meal?

Yeah, we're salivating at the thought too.
