Bradley Lowery Collects His Child Of Courage Award The Day After His Sixth Birthday

Deserved!

A day after turning six, brave Bradley Lowery has deservedly picked up the Child Of Courage Award at the Pride Of The North East awards.

The six-year-old, who is fighting neuroblastoma, a rare form of child cancer, had to celebrate his birthday in hospital as he was too unwell to be at home.

Seeing him out of hospital gives renewed hope that he may be able to make it to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as his club Sunderland face the new Premier League champions Chelsea. There's even a petition for him to present Chelsea with their trophy.

Only a couple of days ago his family wrote on his Facebook page: "Bradley is feeling a little better and his pain is slowly starting to improve.

"We have decided that we are cancelling our holiday to America as we were meant to go on Sunday and we don't feel he'll be well enough."

But following his trip to the awards ceremony tonight, maybe he will be able to venture to London instead.

Turning up in his new suit, which his mum Gemma said he was very excited about, Bradley was wheeled into the ceremony in his pram by his father.

There to meet him was his favourite footballer, and 'best mate', Jermain Defoe. There was an instant smile on Bradley's face, before he was picked up by the Sunderland and England striker.

"How are you, alright?" asked the Premier League ace, before giving him a kiss. After being told by his mum to give the wanting press a big smile, Bradley duly obliged. Showing that he continues to fight despite all the struggles that he faces.

Bradley has touched the football world, but it's spread further than that. At this year's Grand National, a 41st horse was entered into the field with his name. And he even got to sit on the eventual winner of horse racing's most infamous event.

Yesterday evening, Bradley appeared in a video on his Facebook page to thank everybody for the birthday wishes that had come in from left, right and centre.

In one post, his parents wrote: "We have had lots of fun reading out his birthday wishes on his crowd funding and birthday page."

In another, they added: "Bradley not feeling the best today but he still made the most of his tea party at the play room even though he was on his bed."

Our favourite little LAD never fails to surprise us with his courage (hence the award), and tomorrow is another day where he will continue to fight, no doubt.
