A Morrisons security guard is being a hailed a hero after a picture captured the moment he held an umbrella over a dog outside one of the supermarkets.

Ethan Dearman was the ultimate LAD as he was pictured wearing a hi-vis while he sheltered the Golden Retriever dog from the rain.

The selfless and kind gesture went down a storm in the world of Twitter after tattoo artist Mel Gracie posted it online.

Mel wrote: "Shout out to this @Morrisons security man keeping this good boy dry. He said 'well you never know how dogs feel about the rain'."

She then found out that the security man was in fact Ethan and tagged him in the thread as the tweet went viral - raking in over 118,000 likes and over 15,000 retweets.

Ethan replied to the tweet saying: "I didn't think I'd go viral on twitter like this. I knew I was making people smile but this is something else entirely, lol."

In response to someone's comment asking why someone tied him up there, Ethan explained: "It wasn't raining when he was tied there and since I can't move another's dog I thought using an umbrella would be a good compromise." What a legend.

Commenting on the kindness, one person said: "And people like this is why there are still burning embers within the human race. X"

People were quick to point out how happy the dog looks.

Another added: "What a lovely, thoughtful thing to see amongst all the depressing pictures from the news. @Morrisons are lucky to have you as this picture is an amazing advert for them. I hope they give you a bonus because you deserve one."

Someone else commented: "Thank you for being so kind, it feels in short supply at the moment. I hope that the dog's owner appreciated your lovely efforts and that @Morrisons recognises that they have a wonderful employee. I'm sure if they could the dog would have thanked you."

Morrisons retweeted the picture on to their own social media and a Morrisons spokesperson told LADbible: "It's going to be a wet week so we've issued nine thousand Morrisons umbrellas to keep our customers - and their dogs - dry. It's good to see that it is already happening in our Giffnock store."
