A man who describes himself as an 'old school romantic' is on a quest to find a mystery woman he has only encountered once, across a set of traffic lights.

However, that was all Martin Baker needed, and now he's trying to see if he can reach out to the unknown woman that he fell for in Grimsby.

The 41-year-old was driving his distinctive orange truck through the Lincolnshire town on Saturday afternoon on his way to pick up an order he'd purchased.

At the lights, he made eye contact with another driver, and claims sparks flew for the pair of them.

Now, the carer - who lives in North Hull - is hoping she'll come forward, which would prove the unspoken connection wasn't just something that happened in his head.

All we know about the woman is that she was driving a blue BMW.

Martin says he often checks out other cars on the road - his is not one that you'd miss easily - and said he caught eyes and shared a smile with a woman driving the car at Peaks Parkway.

He said that the 'attractive' woman returned his gaze, and even flashed him a smile.

Martin, a self-described 'old school romantic', said the woman had a 'girl next door' charm to her, and hopes he can meet her again to see if there's anything in it.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: "I would like to say to her, let's let the lights go green for us and see what happens."

He's the first to admit he hasn't always been the most confident in asking people out on a date, but - it would seem - he doesn't want to let this chance encounter pass him by.

Martin continued: "I would never just walk up to a girl and ask her out,

"The only time I have ever done it was years ago, and she became my girlfriend.

"I am not very confident around women, it's hard to know if you're saying the right thing.

"In this instance I just thought why not? Why not put myself out there? There's a beautiful woman smiling at me and I should take the chance.

"I'd hate to see this pass without trying to find her. I would regret it if I didn't take the chance.

"I would say she was around early 30s. Age is just a number to me though, it's all about the connection.

"I'm definitely all for romance. With my ex-girlfriend I surprised her and filled a whole room with rose petals. I like doing stuff like that."

Martin's interests include walking and climbing, but he says he also just likes going out for a romantic meal.

We'll have to wait and see whether the mystery woman comes forward or not.
