When you book your ticket to Parklife festival the inevitable is predicted - it's going to be pretty messy to say the least.

People usually make a fool out of themselves - most commonly, it's sliding down a hill in front of thousands of people. My point is, we've all been there - all been humiliated.

But everything is forgotten the following day and, if you're lucky enough, people are more interested in going again for day two. Apart from this remorseful guy.

After getting into a mysterious 'tangle' at the festival, the man felt so bad about his behaviour that he wrote an apology and donated £100 ($133) to police.

In the guilt-stricken message to Greater Manchester Police, he apologised for wasting officers' time and thanked them for helping him when he got into trouble.

The festival-goer, who travelled to Heaton Park in Manchester, admitted in the letter to making a 'poor choice' - before revealing that he had made the donation to COPS - Care Of Police Survivors - a charity working to support bereaved families of officers.

He said he considered sending over a crate of wine, but had second thoughts over whether the boozy gift could be accepted. Yeah, good idea - send alcohol, the thing that probably got you into the 'tangle'.

Police chiefs have said the letter proved that the first priority of officers working Parklife was to keep people safe.

The man, believed to be called 'Luke', said GMP officers were there to assist him and ensured his safety until someone came to pick him up.

He wrote: "To whom it may concern." Solid opening, very professional - which was probably a stark contrast to a couple of weeks ago.

He continued: "This past weekend at Parklife I made a poor choice and got myself into a real tangle. Thankfully your officers were there to assist and make sure I stayed safe until someone came to pick me up well after hours.

"I have no memory of who the officers were but I do believe the gaffer had a strong face of dark stubble and a thick Burnley/Bolton accent. If you mention it's Luke some of them may remember the incident!

"Please accept my apologies for using police time through something that was my own fault and as a gesture I have made a donation of £100 to the police charity COPS."

A thank-you card accompanied the letter, alongside proof of the donation.

We can't help but wonder what he did that was so bad.

Whatever it was, GMP will just be pleased with the donation we're sure.

Chief Superintendent Graeme Openshaw who was the police's 'silver commander' of the event, said: "Although we don't know what 'tangle' this man was in, it's always pleasing to get positive feedback from the people who we are there to serve and protect.

"Our priority is to make sure people can attend events like Parklife safely and go home with great memories."

Chief executive Tim Buckley said: "We are extremely grateful to this gentleman for his generous donation, which will support our work with the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty.

"The police and wider police community are keen supporters of our work so I am sure they will be delighted by this kind gesture."

According to the Metro, police arrested 56 people, mostly for drugs offences, during the Parklife weekend, but no serious crimes were reported. GMP has confirmed the man who sent the letter wasn't one of the arrests.
