Several residents of the Grenfell Tower block are still missing but Tazmin Belkadi and her sister, Malek, have miraculously been found alive.

The six and 10-year-olds were rescued from near the top of the 24-storey building and are now recovering in hospital, where they have been reunited with another family member. Sadly, their mum, dad and baby sister are still reported missing.

Resident Ousama Itani has told Sky News: "These two girls here were unaccounted for and were recently just accounted for in a hospital but we're still looking for their parents and a small baby in their family as well.

"The little girls were found near the top of the building so we're very happy they were actually rescued."

Adel Chaoui is the cousin of the two girls' mum, Farah Hamdan, and has told the Guardian it took them hours to find out they were safe.

Adel said: "I was trawling hospitals and yesterday morning I found two of Farah's children in St Mary's. It's not because authorities contacted us but because we begged and cajoled a nurse who took pity and said there was a child upstairs who matched our description."

Meanwhile, Farah's mum, Rakia Hamdan, has told The Sun that they're desperate for any information about the rest of the family.

She said: "We can't find them. We've been to all the hospitals and we've been searching all day but we still haven't found them. We just want to know they are safe."

Seventeen people have been confirmed dead in the blaze, which started to do its horrific damage just before 1am on Wednesday. Firefighters were on the scene just six minutes after the first 999 call but it took several hours for the inferno to be brought under control.

Sniffer dogs will be sent into the building, when it's safe to do so, to find any more bodies. Metropolitan Commander Stuart Cundy says the search and rescue operation could take weeks because of the extensive damage.

Thirty-seven people are still being treated in hospital, with 17 of those people in a critical condition.

The Queen has issued a statement, saying: "My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital.

"Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others.

"It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event."

There has been a huge outpouring of support following the fire. Several online fundraisers have been organised, with the Grenfell Tower Fire Fund already raising more than £31,000 in just one day.
