They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but that doesn't stop the staff in McDonald's from looking at you a bit weird when you ask to triple the size of your bacon, sausage and egg McMuffin at six o'clock in the morning.

Still though, why let that put you off? Especially when you can do it for an absolute steal at just £2.80, thanks to a cunning trick dreamed up by thrifty muffin enthusiast Paul Steele.

Steele, 26, has devised the perfect ploy for maxing the size of your breakfast snack for just a couple of quid - and it's so good that his mates have suggested he deserves a Nobel Prize.

His supersized double sausage and egg McMuffin features four pork sausage patties, three eggs, three slices of cheese and two rashers of bacon and it all came to him - as most ground-breaking ideas do - during an epiphany at a Maccies self-service checkout.

"I went in feeling super hungry and that's when I had the idea to just keep adding extra bacon, patties, eggs and cheese.

"It just came to me - it was like when Newton discovered gravity."

The standard double sausage and egg McMuffin from the regular menu costs £4.19, including a breakfast side and drink.

But that wasn't good enough for muffin man Paul. He dared to dream, he demanded more... and he got it.

Paul paid 80p to add two patties, 80p for two rashers of bacon, 80p for two extra eggs and 40p for two more slices of cheese.

In total, he paid £6.99 and the result was truly something to behold.

Paul reflected on his earth-shattering revelation: "At first the lady making the sandwich seemed a little bit confused but I have to say she made it beautifully."

"I reckon once this gets out it's going to cause a craze all across the country.

"It's something I'll probably be remembered for in years to come.

"They may even name it the McMuffin of Steele."

And what a start to the day it is. This custom breakfast butty packs in a whopping 1,345 calories - more than half of your daily allowance. Safe to say it's not one for the faint of heart. But if you think you've got what it takes to smash one to kick start your day, then why not head down to your local McDonald's now and give it a go for yourself?
