Aussie Woman Doesn’t Bat An Eyelid As She Hauls Shark Out Of Oceanside Pool

Aussie Woman Doesn’t Bat An Eyelid As She Hauls Shark Out Of Oceanside Pool

She's been labelled a 'dead set legend'.

An oceanside public pool is a perfect middle ground for Aussies who want to enjoy the freshness of a salt-water swim, but don't want to worry about any of the scary and potentially deadly animals that live in the ocean.

However, every now and then, a big swell, huge tide or even just a decent sized wave can toss some marine life into your local, seemingly safe pool. That would certainly ruin a perfect morning swim for those who freak out at the sight of a fin or an octopus' tentacles.

But one woman in Sydney's Cronulla decided that she wasn't going to let a shark get in the way of people's enjoyment. So, she casually followed the Port Jackson around the baths, and then tossed it into the ocean like it was nothing.

Balls-of-steel Melissa Hatheier has told Channel 9's Today Show: "I got home from the gym, and my gorgeous mum who swims every morning down here in the rock pool rang and said this there is a shark in the pool.

"And I said, OK don't worry, I will come down. So I came down, there was a bit of a crew down here, and had a look and he was a little Port Jackson and was doing laps of the pool and I said, 'you know I'm going to go in and check him out'.

"So I herded him into the shallows and then I just sort of got on my knees. With his fins, I picked him up and helped him back.

"He was getting stressed because he was bumping into the rocks and I was thinking I just need to put him back where he is meant to be."

The Cronulla Real Estate agent uploaded the video to the company's Facebook page and it's already been viewed more than half a million times. One viewer wrote: "My worst fear has come true! A shark in the Oak Park Pool! On another note, this chick is a dead set legend."

Another Facebook user was even more impressed: "Wow Melissa, your act of bravery there is nothing short of brilliant giving peace of mind in face of danger and how the human body and mind works when instincts kick in to resolve a problem. People will remember this for a long time."

It's not Melissa's first encounter with marine life; she got up close and personal when she spotted a huge humpback whale and her baby about six months ago.
