There's a lot of bad news going around at the moment; whether it's mass shootings in America, the looming threat of climate change affecting things like the Great Barrier Reef or the possibility that Brexit could send the UK back a couple of decades, it's not outrageous to feel a little down sometimes.

So that's why we're here to give you some uplifting news for your day and it comes in the form on a birthday celebration.

You'd think turning 100 would be a pretty monumental experience however one British woman was blown away by the tremendous act of a couple of bin collectors.

The blokes gathered around the woman's home, lit the candles and knocked on the door. When Mercy cracked the door ajar, the fellas burst into song and wished her a happy birthday, leaving the centenarian in tears.

The man carrying the cake said to Mercy 'Make a wish that you live to 105', and she ripped back with a solid 'Shut up!'.

The video was posted onto Reddit, where it's gone absolutely viral.

One person commented on the post saying: "This is honestly one of the nicest things I've ever seen. I used to work in a retirement home and there's nothing more special than seeing the residents be surprised and happy by nice gestures. We don't tend to think about it a lot, but old age can be very hard for a lot of people and I'd imagine this really helped brighten up her day.

Another person said: "I've had a really bad day. I got called a waste of space by my boss and I've been fired. I've spent all day doing work on my thesis. I just watched that and my heart just exploded."

A third added: "Awesome bros! Wish more people would be like this. So many elderly people alone wanting nothing more than a little company and attention."

It's a similar sentiment given to a lonely man who was about to celebrate his centenary by himself.

Graham Griffiths opened his barbershop in 2014 in Melksham, Wiltshire and one of his first customers was Jack, who was soon going to be reaching his 100th birthday.

The 29-year-old asked Jack about his celebration plans, but was heartbroken when he said he had no family left.

The barber didn't want Jack to celebrate his birthday by himself, so he embarked on a mission to get anyone he could to help wish the man a happy birthday.

Not only did he decorate the centenarian's home but he also gave the birthday boy nearly 100 cards from strangers, along with chocolates, ties, mints and other small gifts.

Graham also threw in a £10 gift voucher for bakery Greggs, so he can have a free meal every day for a week. He had so much to give Jack that it was a two-man operation getting it all to the centenarian's house.
