Brit Living In America Explains The Biggest Culture Shocks He Faced

When people move to a different country there's always going to be a period of adjustment. It seems one Brit is still getting the hang of things after his move to the US, as he tells us in the clip below:

The TikToker, named Brenden, has put together a series of videos in which he tells all about the times he's been caught in some rather confusing altercations, not really knowing what to do.

One of the 'culture shocks' shows him recreating the time he was asked by a waiter whether he wanted a refill because they're free - and of course, not believing the waiter, he scoffs at the very idea.

Very British.

In another scenario, he's ordering 'eggs, bacon and home fries' and the waiter (well, Brenden posed as a waiter) asks how he'd like his eggs before giving him options of 'over easy' and 'sunny side up'.

What happened to fried, poached or scrambled, eh?

Using the handle @brendenandellie, he captioned the initial clip: "American Diner Edition," before adding the hashtags #cultureshock, #culturaldifference and #britsintheusa.

In another of his sketches, Brenden finds himself feeling confused by everyone greeting him in the street and saying hello.

Next, he walks into GAP and is stopped by staff trying to assist him from all angles. When it comes to paying, he's told the item is actually more expensive than it says on the price tag... only to find out that the tax needs to be added to the overall price.

We can't possibly forget the age old courgette/zucchini and aubergine/eggplant debate either, which is highlights in his 'Grocery Store Edition'.

Earlier this year an American man listed all the reasons why living in the UK is better than the US.

Taking to Reddit the anonymous bloke admitted how he developed 'survivor's guilt after experiencing living in a sane country compared to America'.

Here's the rest of his list:

  • "Free ATMs everywhere. Banks aren't making loot preying on the poor with fees like USA."
  • "Tons of paid holiday at every job."
  • "Public right of way walking paths all over the place."
  • "10 dollar (£7) prescription drugs."
  • "OTC [over the counter] drugs way cheaper."
  • "Modern and plentiful public transit."
  • "Less expensive and better quality fresh veg and meat."
  • "Cops that seem like servants not lunatic power trippers."
  • "Workers take their breaks religiously."
  • "Went to the ER and I got emotional because they treated me like a human being and I wouldn't go into debt. (Getting emotional makes them embarrassed though [sic] so don't recommend)."
  • "Feeling that's hard to explain but imagine you know that everyone you know, your neighbours, random strangers, kids, moms, grannys, everyone you see everyday is covered and can go free to a doctor or ER [emergency room], taking care of each other."

He went on to explain: "I miss you UK and I am coming back when this is all over... you're my happy place and have a lot of compassion in your society!

"Tl; dr: If you're not obscenely rich, UK is like a utopia compared to USA.

"Sorry not sorry."
