The story of an elderly man who has returned to his favourite cinema to watch Godzilla vs Kong following the easing of lockdown has brought people to tears on social media.

Jordan King, 23, from North Wales, works at a local cinema chain and was made up to see 87-year-old Eddie in the cinema for the first time since February 2020.

Sharing his tale on Twitter, Jordan wrote: "My favourite customer at the cinema came back today for the first time since last February and I nearly cried."

He added: "It was very apt that his big comeback today was for Godzilla vs Kong, a film he was excited for even all the way back before Covid - he couldn't have been more happy to be back. Plus I gave him my staff tickets of course."

He goes on to tell his followers that Eddie used to go to the cinema with his late wife, and takes notes in his journal about the films he sees.

Jordan's post has racked up thousands of likes, with Twitter users sharing their own thoughts.

One follower said: "I loved reading this thread and all your comments, brought a tear to my eye. Bless Eddie and bless you and all the staff for looking after him like he's family. What a lovely story."

Another replied: "Can't wait to hear about when you tell him about how adored he is by everyone on Twitter now."

We still don't know what Eddie thought of the new movie.

But Eddie is still yet to give his verdict on Godzilla vs Kong and how it measures up to his old favourites.

Jordan told LADbible: "I'm going to have to wait until he's next in to find out! My shift finished before the film did - I was gutted.

"It's King Kong and Godzilla though, so I'm pretty sure he'll have loved it!"

Jordan said he and his workmates were relieved to have Eddie back in the cinema after not seeing him since the start of the pandemic.

He added: "It was really hard, honestly. None of us have his number or home address, so we've all just been waiting to see when - or honestly if - he'd come back.

"Having him back though was just the best, and he said himself that it's not the same without the big screen and the trailers - he loves the trailers!"

Jordan is glad cinemas are reopening, explaining that for many customers it's the main thing that gets them out of the house.

The cinema has a few regular faces, but, Jordan says: "Eddie's in a league of his own entirely though, and talking to other people in our industry, it seems like every cinema has its Eddie.

"We're just lucky to have him around."
