This video shows the moment a deliver driver attempted to confront a customer after she realised she'd been given an $8 (£6) tip:

The footage was filmed on the doorbell camera with the driver explaining that she'd spent 40 minutes getting to the New York address.

As the woman got to the house, the customer thanked her and asked her to leave the food on the doorstep. But she replied saying that she needed to speak to him.

The confused customer questioned what she meant, to which she replied: "I don't think you realise where this has come from so I need to speak to you."

It turns out the woman, who hasn't been named, was disgruntled with the tip that she received and wanted to speak to the man face-to-face.

When he told her it takes 15-20 minutes to drive from the restaurant he ordered from, in Commack, to the delivery address, in Smithtown, she quickly responded: "It's not. You need to try and drive it.

"I just drove it, it's 40 minutes. It's 12 and a half miles. So I don't think you realise how far it is."

The former DoorDash employee then suggested that he should 'adjust his tip' to 'make it right'. The man asked how much the tip he'd given was and the woman told him it was $8.

The man, at this point laughing, asked: "What the hell are you looking for? I gave an $8 tip." The woman told him she was just going to take the food back before grabbing the bag and walking back down the footpath at the front of the property.

The woman walked away.

After being uploaded to YouTube, the video ended up making its way to Reddit where it's gone viral, leaving viewers confused.

One person commented to say: "Wasn't expecting to hear the name of the town I live in mentioned in this. Commack is literally the next town over from Smithtown and is in no way, shape, or form a 40 minute drive even in the worst of traffic. Maybe if you're traveling by rickshaw, but certainly not by car. It's 15 minutes TOPS."

Another added: "Drivers know mileage, pay, order, delivery address... everything before delivery. If you accept it, tip or not, it's on you."

In a statement given to the Mirror, a DoorDash spokesperson said: "We take the safety of our community extremely seriously, and such inappropriate behaviour is never tolerated on the DoorDash platform.

"Any behaviour that violates this zero tolerance policy is grounds for deactivation, and the Dasher involved has been removed from our platform.

"We have been in touch with the customer to offer support, and sincerely regret that this incident fell short of the experience we strive to provide every day."
