A teenager decided to try to hatch an egg she got from Waitrose and as if by magic, she now has a pet duck called Charlie. Watch his journey here:

Lucy Callaghan, from Fife in Scotland, posted her journey with Charlie the duck on social media and fans can't get enough of her and her feathery little mate.

She goes by the name @charliethemotherducker on TikTok and you can see Charlie from when he was just an egg.

At first, he was under a hen, but towards the end they used a rotating incubator in order to keep the egg warm so it could hatch.

Lucy's videos show him hatching, then as a fluffy little duckling, and now as a fully grown duck. He even has a girlfriend.

She kept him in a cage when he was really little, but now Charlie follows Lucy everywhere she goes, biting her trouser legs if he doesn't get the attention he wants and deserves.

Followers regularly ask questions about what it's like to own a duck, with some even saying that they want to try to hatch eggs for themselves.

Speaking to LADbible, 16-year-old Lucy said: "It was a spur of the moment idea when my mum and I were shopping in our local Waitrose, we had a broody chicken and decided to see if it would work.

"They were £2.60 when we bought them. Charlie is now seven months old and is huge compared to the other ducks at my yard.

"My Dad didn't know that we had duck eggs under our chicken he only found out when we had to bring Charlie in the house to go into the incubator when he was hatching. My dad wasn't impressed at first because we have so many animals, but he now loves Charlie."

Charlie goes everywhere with Lucy, following her around the yard and sitting with her in the house.

She added: "My Mum, older brother and I couldn't actually believe that Charlie had hatched because it is so rare for supermarket eggs to hatch.

"Charlie now has a girlfriend called Lola who is also a white duck that we rescued, so we are hoping we get some fertilised eggs from her and get some more babies, but if not I think we might buy some fertilised eggs off the internet.

"It was so much fun, if not difficult, but to say that I own a duck from Waitrose is great."

A Waitrose spokesperson told LADbible: "Our farmers work hard to ensure ducks and drakes are separated correctly but it's challenging to tell white feathered egg laying ducks apart. Without incubation, fertilised eggs, if eaten, are indistinguishable from normal eggs."
