Gucci Accused Of Copying New Zealand Bloke's Face Tattoo

Gucci Accused Of Copying New Zealand Bloke's Face Tattoo

Why wouldn't you want to replicate this iconic tattoo?

Two years ago the world was introduced to a guy who claimed the award for the worst face tattoo on the planet.

Don't get us wrong, there are plenty of entries to this fake accolade every year but it's hard to go past Mark Cropp's ink which was a massive banner across a third of his face.

Mark's 'Devast8' tatt went viral online and he became a minor internet celebrity as he struggled to find a job that would employ him. But it seems like the look was so iconic that international fashion label Gucci decided to copy it for a runway campaign.

Models walking for Alessandro Michele's Gucci Cruise 2020 wardrobe in Rome had fake looking ink across the lower part of their faces but instead of the legendary 'Devast8' there was 'Gucci'.

People online couldn't believe the similarities, with one person writing: "Aren't you going to give a shout out to your inspiration? A fine young man called Devast8 from New Zealand."

Another added: "Oh did Gucci just copied our 'DEVAST8' guy in their autumn show???? #DEVAST8 dude, you've made an impact on the fashion front."

A third wrote: "Wow...Didn't realise that 'Devast8' became a member of the 'Gucci Gang'."

The bloke really has that power.

Mark went viral in 2017 when he posted a photo of his mug, asking everyone if they could flick some job adverts his way.

"Hey im keen as to work but have one thing that is stoping me and thats my tattoo on my face i dont have a cv as of yet but have worked at nz brick distrabuters b4 also a scrap metal yard im 19 years of age and have my lerners license," he wrote. "Keen as on job or work place that will take me on. I have a cpit qualification in painting and decorateing."

His plea was finally answered when he was given a traffic controller job.

Cropp, who was given the tattoo by his brother when they were both smashed on homebrew alcohol while cellmates in prison, was working with a company based in Hamilton on the North Island.

He initially took up the offer to remove the tattoo but only attended one of 12 scheduled sessions, as he was apparently concerned that the treatment would mess up his skin.

He also admitted feeling a bit of attachment to the ill-advised tat, as I guess you would if you had to look at it every day.

Who knows whether he's still got it.
