Italian Man Outraged After American Fiancée Asks For Pineapple Pizza

It's a divisive topping, that's for sure - but for an Italian, it's not up for debate

An Italian man had a predictably outraged response when his American fiancée enquired about getting pineapple on her pizza. Watch here:

In the video, Carlo and Sarah - who have 535,000 followers on TikTok - are waiting to order in an Italian restaurant when she asks: "Carlo, do you think if I asked for pineapple on the pizza that they'd give it to me?"

Carlo immediately flashes a concerned glance at his other half, before telling her that he 'couldn't continue to live here [Italy]' if she made the controversial request.

Sarah replies: "Why? Everyone does it in America."

Carlo then admits that he quite likes the untraditional topping on the Italian dish, but passionately insists it is out of the question in his home country.

He says: "I know that in America they do that, and I try - and it's OK, it's good, I can't say that it isn't good - but if somebody knows that you are my fiancée, and hear you ask [for] pineapple, I can't live here."

After Sarah urges him not to be 'so dramatic', Carlo feels compelled to whip out that famous Italian exasperation hand gesture as he responds: "So dramatic?? Pineapple in the pizza?!"

He wasn't impressed.

The video went down a treat with the couple's followers, racking up more than 13.6 million views.

Commenting on the clip, one person said: "The look he gave you as soon as you said pineapple on pizza LMAOO"

Another added: "He had to look around and make sure no one heard you say that"

A third commented: "I love Italians getting mad at food."

Of course, the question of whether it is acceptable to have pineapple on pizza is extremely divisive.

For some it is an inauthentic abomination, for others, it tastes good and that's all that matters.

But in the eyes of many, the debate was put to rest in 2018, when none other than Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson stepped forward as a pineapple pizza man.

Sharing a picture of one of his famously indulgent 'cheat meals' on Instagram, The People's Champion said: "As for my pizza toppings - keep in mind, I'm the guy who likes to put tequila and brown sugar in my oatmeal, so pineapple on pizza is MY JAM - with ham."

Of course, Johnson is hardly a culinary authority on pizza, but he is The Rock - and for a lot of people, that was enough.

Commenting on the post, one person said: "Hey everybody @TheRock is officially a pineapple pizza guy so this debate is now officially over. You've got something to say, take it up with him. Good luck."

Another added: "@TheRock Loves pineapple on his pizza. His exact words were "pineapple on pizza is MY JAM". Everyones argument against this is now invalid."
