With the double whammy of the coronavirus pandemic and Christmas hitting many people in the pockets, one landlord has been praised for a generous gesture he made for a tenant.
Posting on Reddit, a man named Chris shared a snap of a Christmas card he says came from his landlord that offered him half-price rent for January.
The photo shows a Christmas card with the message: "Season's greetings and best wishes for the coming year.

"Chris, I figured the best Santa gift for you would be taking off half the January rent. So just pay $440 at the end of this month. Lee."
Sharing the photo, Chris wrote: "Didn't get any gifts for Christmas except from my landlord.
"He has no idea I've been struggling lately."
Chris told LADbible: "I live over 1,000 miles away from my family in New York (they are from Georgia) and I don't have many friends here. So nobody I knew gave me a Christmas present.

"I woke up on Christmas morning with a text from my landlord that read 'Merry Christmas. Special delivery at your door.' I thought maybe a family member shipped something to me.
"It was just an envelope with my landlord's name on it. So then I thought he just gave me like $20 or a gift card or something, so when I opened it and saw nothing but writing, I was a bit disappointed.
"But as I read the message I literally started to tear up. I mean the man literally put $440 in my pocket. That's a lot of money! "
As you can imagine, the post has picked up thousands of upvotes and has been flooded with praise for the generous landlord and well-wishes for Chris.

See, the world isn't totally awful after all.
Earlier this year another landlord surprised his departing tenants, giving them a bonus alongside their deposit.

John, from Falham Properties, told the seven students to 'buy something nice' just after the shops reopened following this summer's lockdown and handed each tenant an extra £50 ($60) back.
Tenant Maisie Gardner, 22, was so touched by the gesture she shared the news on Twitter, alongside a screenshot of the text sent by John that read: "As a thank you, I have added a small bonus of £50 to each of your deposits making it £300 and now the shops are opening again I hope you'll be able to buy yourself something nice."
Maisie, from Manchester, said: "We lived at the house for three years and it was really nice, we never had any problems if we did John did everything he could to fix it.

"I'm just amazed by the amount of likes the tweet has got. Even though people are replying with negative comments about their experience with landlords, it's important for people to be aware that there are good landlords too."
