Men All Over The World Are Struggling To Understand This Hair Meme

Is it me, or could a girl take half an inch off the bottom of her hair and class it as a 'new cut', and we're expected to appreciate the difference?
On Wednesday, Payton Hicks, 18, put the following picture on Twitter with the caption: "You vs. the girl he cheats with."

As you can see, many women got the joke, but the majority of the male population was left baffled.
Hicks, who is currently attending a cosmetology school, took some before-and-after photos of her roommate's hair. (For anyone who is confused already - cosmetology is the expert care of hair and makeup as well as skincare and beauty products).
Is it because the right one is fake curls or something it looks like some fine pasta

One wrote: "I think this has something do to with the curls??"
He's right, there is a subtle difference.
One LAD, Hayden Cooper, thought he'd bravely stick his neck on the line and risk it.
"The curls on the right are too tight and unnatural looking. The ones on the left look nice - see I know," he wrote.

The original poster finally put men out of their misery and told BuzzFeed News: "My method for curling clients' hair is creating ugly ringlet-type curls that I then brush to make beachy beautiful waves.
"I was laughing and joking about how bad they look before I brush them."
Wait, you mean the original is 'ugly'?
Warren Brown, a senior stylist at Voodou, Liverpool, explained (and simplified) the difference to LADbible.
He said: "The picture on the right is before the hair was styled into the picture on the left.
"No one would really every ask to have their hair styled like the right-hand side picture. People who do ask for that are weird and hence why they would be the side chick."
