Woman's Missing Daffodils Found In Fridge After Husband Mistook Them For Spring Onions

With spring having sprung, Helen Newman decided she wanted to brighten up her home with some flowers.

But when they didn't arrive in her Asda delivery, she didn't think much of it. Mistakes like this happen all the time, and it's easy enough to get a refund.

It was only three days later that she found out they had been delivered after all and had been hiding away in the fridge - where husband Dave erroneously put them thinking they were spring onions.

She subsequently shared the discovery on Twitter and it went viral, racking up more than 87,000 likes.

Specsavers even waded into the comments, offering to send replacement flowers and encouraging Dave to get his peepers tested.

In defence of Helen's hubby of eight years though, this kind of mishap was very out of character. Plus he had the courage to come clean.

Helen, from Newcastle, told LADbible: "I very much just bought them to brighten up the house - we're in the finishing stages of the obligatory lockdown house decoration project.

"Since it's Easter soon, I thought it would be seasonally appropriate.

"After, I was under the assumption that they hadn't arrived.

"I never really thought much about it. These things happen and I know it's not uncommon for online food delivery orders to have things missing - no big deal."

She continued: "Then Saturday evening, Dave came out the kitchen with a little white plastic bag, like the kind of bags supermarkets sometimes put meat in.

"He just said something like, 'I think I thought your daffodils were spring onions and put them in the fridge.'

"As they hadn't bloomed yet and were tied together with elastic bands, I guess it was an easy mistake to make!"

But it seems this was a rather fortuitous mistake after all, like when the Kellogg brothers accidentally left some cooked wheat to go stale and ended up with corn flakes (true story).

Helen, 38, said: "They're [the daffodils] doing really well, starting to blossom now, so I think some time in the fridge actually did them the world of good."

So there you go, if you want your daffs to thrive, chuck 'em in the fridge for a few days first. It might help.

Just don't chop them up and mix them through your salad.
