Mysterious Monolith Made Out Of Gingerbread Appears In USA

A monolith made out of gingerbread has mysteriously appeared in California for Christmas Day.

The confectionary tower, which has been dotted with frosting and gumdrops, is situated in Corona Heights, San Francisco.

Visitors have been calling it a 'Christmas miracle' as no one has yet taken credit for the structure.

The city's parks department says it's not in any rush to take the monolith down, with an agency spokesperson telling KQED: "We all deserve a little bit of magic right now."

App developer Ananda Sharma told the outlet he could smell the monolith before he saw it during his morning run, adding: "It made me smile. I wonder who did it, and when they put it there?"

Some people haven't been convinced that it's real. Product manager Josh Ackerman tweeted: "The gingerbread monolith is real. So real that I even watched someone lick it."

He went on: "And then I proceeded to say a prayer for them. On that note, merry monolith!"

There have been random monoliths popping up over the last few weeks, with others found in the US, Colombia, Romania and the UK.

More recently, one was spotted in the Netherlands by a group of hikers who stumbled across it while travelling through Friesland, near the village of Oudehorne at the Kiekenberg nature reserve on 6 December.

According to reports, the group discovered the monolith next to a frozen pond in the middle of a remote field.

And if that wasn't weird enough, the hikers said there were no footprints anywhere near it, despite the ground being frosty.

While the others found across the globe have been remarkably shiny, this one is slightly less so, reports said.
